Are you looking for a movie to take the family to this weekend? Maybe something that doesn’t make you cringe when you watch it while sitting next to your kids? Camp Hideout opens in theaters this weekend and has got you covered! This movie is a fun adventure that follows the main character as he hides out from some seriously bad guys at church camp. While there, he learns about the power of true friendship with a smattering of faith thrown in as well.
Camp Hideout stars Ethan Drew (YouTube) as Noah, a troubled teen who accidentally steals a really important gadget from some city thugs and winds up hiding out at a nearby church camp. Initially, he resists becoming involved in the camp activities or befriending the other campers. As he spends more time there, he begins to understand the meaning of true friendship and the power of working together.
Overall, the cast works really well together. You will recognize some well-known faces including Christopher Lloyd (Taxi, Back to the Future), Corbin Bleu (High School Musical) and Amanda Leighton (teenage Sophie on This Is Us) as well as a bunch of enthusiastic newcomers. If you can forgive a few slightly over-the-top minor characters, the cast as a whole is really strong and the movie keeps moving and holds your attention.
While the camp Noah hides at is a church camp, faith plays a mostly minor role in the film. This might be a great way to introduce kids to a new genre of movie without hitting them over the head with it. The movie does have a little “violence” but it is very slapstick and reminiscent of what you would see in a movie like Home Alone. No one gets seriously hurt and no blood is shown.
Overall, Camp Hideout is a fun and wholesome way to spend a day at the movies and will be enjoyed by both kids and parents. The ending leaves an opening for a sequel if this movie does well, and I’d definitely go see it if they do make one!
