Fall is finally here and there’s a reason why it’s often referred to as “pumpkin spice season”. This actually seems to be fairly controversial (I know, right?) and I fall firmly on the side of loving everything pumpkin spice. Yes, this includes my coffee, my air fresheners and even my bath products – especially this amazing Pumpkin Spice Sugar Scrub.
Since Fall can often mean drier skin and the need to exfoliate that fading summer tan, it’s a great time to introduce a scrub into your shower routine and why not enjoy a little pumpkin spice at the same time? This Pumpkin Spice Sugar Scrub uses brown sugar which is beneficial for a number of reasons.
Exfoliating: Brown sugar is a great source of glycolic acid which is the smallest of all the alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA). Because of its small size, these molecules can penetrate deep into the skin and loosen the bonds of skin cells which promotes new cell growth.
Moisturizing: Brown sugar is a humectant which means it takes moisture from the environment (like your steamy shower) and transfers it to the skin.
Gentle: Brown sugar is gentler on the skin than salt and softer than granulated sugar. This allows you to use the scrub on areas that might need a more gentle touch.
Supplies:
- 1 cup brown sugar
- ⅓ cup olive oil
- 1 teaspoon Pumpkin Pie Spice
- 15 drops Pumpkin Pie fragrance oil
- (optional) 2 drops orange soap colorant
Directions:
Put cup of brown sugar in a glass bowl.
Add pumpkin pie spice to bowl.
Add olive oil to bowl.
Add fragrance oil to bowl.
Add coloring if desired.
Stir well.
Spoon mixture into an airtight container and seal.
Please do be careful when using this in the shower. Because it contains olive oil, it may make some shower floors slippery. Always use caution when using a new product in the shower.
