Something about February always leaves me in a blue funk. I think it’s a combination of being well past the holidays yet still a long way from Spring (at least here in Wisconsin!). It’s usually pretty cold and gray and my mood can reflect the same if I don’t purposely do things to cheer myself up. One of my favorite things to do is to go see an uplifting movie that leaves me with that warm feeling when it’s over.
If you are also yearning for a feel-good movie, you are in luck! ORDINARY ANGELS fits the bill and opens on Friday, February 23rd. The best part is that it is based on a true story! The movie features some of my favorite actors including Hillary Swank (Million Dollar Baby, Freedom Writers), Alan Ritchson (Reacher), Nancy Travis (Last Man Standing), and 7-year-old Emily Mitchell.
Based on a remarkable true story, ORDINARY ANGELS centers on Sharon (Hilary Swank), a fierce but struggling hairdresser in small-town Kentucky who discovers a renewed sense of purpose when she meets Ed (Alan Ritchson), a widower working hard to make ends meet for his two daughters. With his youngest daughter waiting for a liver transplant, Sharon sets her mind to helping the family and will move mountains to do it. What unfolds is the inspiring tale of faith, everyday miracles, and ordinary angels.
ORDINARY ANGELS is the latest film in partnership between Lionsgate & Kingdom Story Company, following the success of JESUS REVOLUTION in February 2023. Where JESUS REVOLUTION sparked a movement, ORDINARY ANGELS puts faith in action.
ORDINARY ANGELS is directed by Jon Gunn, producer of American Underdog and I Still Believe. It is produced by Kevin Downes and Andrew Erwin of Kingdom Story Company, Jon Berg of Stampede Venture, Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment, and Grammy Award® Winner Dave Matthews as well as Johnathan Dorfman, Sarah Johnson, & David Beal. The screenplay is written by Meg Tilly (Agnes of God) & Kelly-Fremon Craig (Are You There God, It’s Me Margaret).

What sets ORDINARY ANGELS apart is not only its compelling narrative but also its collaborative partnership with three impactful organizations: RIP Medical Debt, The Salvation Army, and Donate Life. This collaboration aims to spread awareness about the film and make a tangible difference in the lives of those in need.
○ RIP Medical Debt is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit that aims to erase medical debt by purchasing debts for a fraction of their face value in bundled portfolios and partners with individuals, faith-based organizations, government, foundations, and corporations to empower donors by converting every dollar contributed to $100 of medical debt relief on average. In partnership with RIP, ORDINARY ANGELS has raised over $19k, erasing over $1.9m in medical debt relief.
○ The Salvation Army’s commitment to community welfare aligns seamlessly with the film’s core message of everyday miracles and the extraordinary impact of ordinary individuals.
○ Donate Life America saves lives by creating opportunities to sign up on the official state organ, eye and tissue donor registry.
