grinch jello shots

The holidays mean lots of entertaining and lots of great food. Whether you are blowing away your guests with delicious cupcakes or serving up your best cheese appetizer, a fun beverage always makes the party more fun.  One of the things I love about serving shots at parties is that they can be prepared ahead leaving me free to mingle with my party guests.

Everyone loves the story of the Grinch – the fuzzy green creature who couldn’t stand Christmas until he learned it’s true meaning and his heart grew three sizes. You guests will love the red and green layers of jello topped with the Grinch’s heart. Not only are they delicious, they are festive and colorful and make a perfect addition to any holiday party table.

Tips for Making Jello Shots

Because of the time it takes for each layer to gel, these multilayer jello shots are best made ahead of when they will be served. In order to keep the layers completely separate, it’s recommended to let the shots sit on the counter for at least 10 minutes and then the remaining 30 minutes in the refrigerator before adding the next layer.

You will need:

  • 1/2 cup Peppermint Schnapps
  • 1/2 cup Spiced Rum
  • 1 box Cherry Jello packet  ( only add water )
  • 1 box Lime Jell-o  ( only add water )
  • Holiday cake sprinkles

Green and White Whipped Cream:

  • 2 cups Heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 drop green gel food coloring
  • 1 piping bag fitted with a small star tip

Cinnamon Heart Candies (These can be hard to find in stores if it isn’t around Valentine’s Day. I stock up and store them for year-round use in an air-tight container.)

  • Fill your shot glasses 1/4 of the way full of red jello and place it to the side.
  • Fill all 12 shot glasses.
  • Wait for the red jello to harden (about 10 minutes on the counter and then 30 minutes in the fridge).

Pro tip: Use a muffin tin to hold shot glasses while you are filling them and to move them in and out of the fridge. This makes it less likely you will spill any.

  • Add 1 tbsp. of green jello on top of the red jello
  • Wait for the jello to harden (about 20-35 mins).

  • Scoop the non-colored whipped cream into the other side of the piping bag
