So tonight I made the first in my recipe series using Swift beef from Roundy’s. I selected the Grilled Top Sirloin with Smokey Orange Sauce because I thought it sounded summer-y. (Plus, the Swift Top Sirloin Filets are on sale for $4.99/lb through Wednesday!)
I threw the steaks on the grill for 5 minutes each side over medium heat and then took them off and let them rest. That is always the hardest part for me – resisting the urge to cut into them to see if they are done. They came out perfect!
The meat was so tender, one of the steaks actually started to fall apart when I took it off the grill!
I served the sauce on the side, as I wasn’t sure how everyone would react to it. Personally, I liked it a lot. The citrus flavor lightened up the meat a bit and the cilantro was a mild undertone (I had been a bit nervous about how much the recipe had called for). The sauce definitely gave the meat a more gourmet taste.
Jay didn’t dislike the orange sauce, but did prefer the meat with just the rub on it. The rub itself adds a lot of flavor and is great to try just on its own. LJ loved the orange sauce and not only put it all over his beef, but his corn and potatoes as well.
I would recommend this recipe if you are having a summer evening dinner party or just want to dress up an average steak cookout. I would probably serve the sauce on the side until you are certain that everyone in your group likes both cilantro and oranges. It would be a great meal for a Father’s Day dinner!
If you are interested in trying this recipe for yourself, you can find it on Swift Beef’s recipe page.
Look for the next installment of this series just in time for the Fourth of July!
