Outfit Your Dorm Room for Less

Getting ready for college? Moving into a dorm is a big deal, but it doesn’t have to cost a fortune. With a little planning and some smart shopping, you can set up a dorm room that’s cozy, organized, and totally your style without blowing your budget. I’m partnering with Walmart to share 20 smart buys that will help you get everything you need for less. These are affiliate links and any purchases made help support my site at no additional cost to you.

1. Twin XL bedding set
Dorm beds need Twin XL sheets, so grab a soft, affordable bedding set that includes a comforter and pillowcases. Choose something in a color you won’t get sick of halfway through the semester.

2. Memory foam mattress topper
Dorm mattresses are not known for comfort. A memory foam topper can turn that rock-hard bed into a cozy place to crash.

3. Bed risers
Raise your bed to make space for storage bins underneath. It’s a simple way to add extra room without taking up more floor space.

5. Clip-on reading light
A good clip-on lamp means you can stay up reading or scrolling TikTok without bothering your roommate.

6. Desk lamp with USB ports
Pick one that lights up your workspace and charges your phone at the same time.

Dorms get hot. A small fan can make a huge difference when the AC isn’t cutting it.

Don’t forget these two standard items as well. They aren;t super exciting but will make your life MUCH easier if you have them. Maybe pick up a few extras and be the hero of the floor when you come to the aid of a neighbor or two who forgot them!

Command hooks
These won’t damage walls and are great for hanging lights, hats, or towels.

Power strip with surge protection
You’ll need more outlets than your dorm has. This is a dorm room lifesaver.

No matter what your needs are through the school year, Walmart has got you covered at prices you can count on!
