Avoid Digestive Issues on Your Road Trip

For us, summer mean road trips – and lot of them!! Unfortunately, road trips can mean long stretches sitting in the car, eating less than the most nutritious food, and sometimes an uncomfortable tummy. We do our best to try and keep all of our digestive systems running like well oiled machines but it can definitely be a challenge! I’m thrilled to be partnering with Align and Influence Central on this sponsored post to share some ways we try and keep our digestive systems in balance while traveling.

Drink lots of water.

It’s tempting to load up on coffee and sugary drinks when traveling, especially if you got an early start. Water is really the best thing for your body and an added benefit is that it won’t make you jittery or aggravate your digestive system. Kids might need an added push to drink water, so having an easy to add flavor tablet or drops is a great option as well. Plus, all of those added bathroom breaks will make sure your stretch your legs!

Bring your own food.

Ever been on a road trip and realized you are in the middle of nowhere right at mealtime? We’ve wound up stopping at some places we never would have eaten at otherwise – and wound up regretting it later! It just took a few times getting stuck eating in a greasy dive because we were just…so…hungry before we started making sure that we at least had enough healthy snacks to get us to the next reliable restaurant. There is nothing worse than getting back on the road and realizing your last meal did not agree with you!

Take probiotics.

I’ve always been a huge fan of probiotics in my day to day life, but they are especially important when traveling. Eating out, staying up past a regular bedtime, and the excitement of a trip can wreck havoc on anyone’s digestive balance, but it has always been especially hard on Josh. Since he is still not really comfortable swallowing pills, I love that Align (a brand I already love and trust) has a chewable probiotic for kids – Align Jr.  It helps support his digestive health while we are on the road.* Plus it does not need to be refrigerated – perfect for on the road!

Align partnered with bloggers, such as myself, to get the word out about its great product benefits. As part of this program, I received compensation for my time. Align believes that consumers and bloggers are free to form their own opinions and share them in their own words. These are great tips. Everyone in our family takes probiotics daily. We all feel so much better now that we’ve been doing that for a while.

I have to get this for the kids! I take a probiotic everyday, and it makes me feel so much better. I’ve never thought of putting the kids on one, though.

Probiotics are great for good gut health. We make sure to take them daily and it’s one of the first things we pack when we are vacationing.
