As I mentioned last month, I was fortunate to be chosen to test drive a Maytag Bravos HE washer/dryer set. I was thrilled, not only to get a new washer and dryer, but because the brand offering it was Maytag. We have been a Maytag family for as long as I can remember – our old pair was a Maytag set. We have several family members who have had their Maytag appliances for several decades! I knew that I would love any product coming from a company with whom we’ve had such a long history.
The most exciting feature of our new set was the High Efficiency feature. The first time I ran it, I stood there and watched the washer go through the entire cycle. I was a little leery as it really does use a LOT less water and I just couldn’t imagine how it was going to get my clothes clean. But sure enough, they came out just as clean as when washed in the old washer. I’d love to tell you that I am expecting to see huge water savings, but we’ve had a drought here and have been madly watering to try and save our younger trees AND we had to fill our 5,000 gallon swimming pool twice (long story), so I suspect I won’t be seeing a smaller water bill for a few months.
I can report that I love how dry the spin cycle gets things. I definitely notice a difference in the amount of time they spend in the dryer. The time I am saving between the fact that I can fit almost double the clothes into each load (and I had an XL set before) and that they make it through the dryer faster is worth tons to me! I can get almost all of the laundry for the week done while watching a two hour episode of my favorite shows. Score!
Looking at the washer “dashboard” the first time, I was a little overwhelmed. There were just so many choices! My old washer only required me to choose the water temperature, type of cycle, and how much water to use – and I never had any complaints with that! I took a few minutes to look through the owner’s manual and soon understood exactly how the whole thing works and decided this was actually going to make things easier!. (I’ll talk a little bit more about that in an upcoming post.) The feature I am using the most right now is the Allergen Cycle. Both LJ and I suffer from allergies that get worse in the late summer/fall. With the drought, it has been even worse this year and seems to be starting earlier. The Allergen Cycle has been shown to remove 95% of allergy triggering elements from laundry. Yay!!
I hope you’ll check back as I will be sharing more about the Maytag Bravos features and letting you know about my experiences with them.
I am participating in this campaign thanks to Maytag and Mom Central Consulting and received the products discussed above in order to facilitate my review. As always, all opinions are 100% my own.
