The Shift Movie Review (and ticket giveaway)

As soon as I heard about Angel Studio’s funding campaign to get The Shift made, I knew this was a movie I definitely wanted to see. When Angel Studios offered me a chance to pre-screen it, I said yes (of course).  I was familiar with several of the actors cast in the main roles and knew this was going to be an interesting plot that would get people talking!

What is the basic plot of The Shift?

In The Shift, a dystopian drama and sci-fi thriller, one man is faced with infinite worlds and impossible choices. When Kevin Garner meets a nefarious adversary known as The Benefactor and refuses his offer of wealth and power, he must escape an alternate totalitarian reality. With survival on the line, Kevin fights to make it back to the world he knows and the woman he loves.

Is The Shift based on the Book of Job?

The Shift has been described as a modern retelling of The Book of Job. Viewers should not go into the movie thinking that this is going to be a Biblical retelling of Job. The Shift uses some of the themes of Job to shape a story that reminded me in parts of The Matrix, The Butterfly Effect and The Hunger Games but with a solid foundation in faith.

Who stars in The Shift?

The Shift’s main characters are portrayed by Sean Astin (The Goonies, Rudy, The Lord of the Rings), Neal McDonough (Band of Brothers), Kristoffer Polaha (North Shore, Ringer, Life Unexpected) and Elizabeth Tabish (The Chosen). If you are a fan of The Chosen, you will also spot Paras Patel (Matthew) and Jordan Walker Ross (Little John) in cameos.

Where can I see The Shift?

The Shift is playing in theaters starting December 1st. You can purchase tickets here. If you are feeling generous, you can pay it forward to allow more people to see the movie by donating here.  The Shift will remain in theaters as long as the demand for tickets lasts so please plan accordingly.

I am giving away two tickets to see The Shift for free. If you would like to be entered to win those tickets, please leave a comment on this post (it will not show up right away but it is there and counts as an entry!). Please be sure to put your current email in the form. (It will not be shared with anyone and only used to notify you if you are selected.) A winner will be chosen using Random.org on December 4th.

Many thanks to Angel Studios for providing a screening of the movie for this review. Opinions are 100% my own.

I didn’t know it was loosely based on the Book of Job. The movie preview definitely piqued my interest.

Thank you so much for this spectacular write up! I have been curious about the Job connection but couldn’t see it in the movie write up from the producer. My husband & I are excited to see this movie and plan to go tomorrow or very soon.
