Ask anyone who has ever entertained, your guests always wind up in the kitchen. It doesn’t matter what exciting activities you have going on in the other rooms of your home, they all gravitate to the kitchen. Since you know that’s where everyone will eventually wind up, you’ll want to make sure your kitchen is spotless before any holiday gatherings. I’m thrilled to be partnering with our sponsor, DishFish, to share these tips on how to easily get your kitchen in tip-top shape.
Clean appliances your guests might use. I always forget to check the inside of the microwave before guests come over. Inevitably, someone will want to warm up their coffee and I cringe as they open the microwave to find last weeks sauce spattered all over the top. Take a microwave safe bowl of water and throw a few pieces of lemon in it. Put the bowl in the microwave and set it for 3 minutes. When it is done, allow it to sit in the microwave for an additional 5 minutes. (Do not open the door.) After 5 minutes, carefully remove the bowl and wipe down the inside of the microwave. Any food should wipe off easily.
Wipe down any horizontal surfaces. While the counters and table get cleaned often, there are a lot of horizontal spaces in the kitchen that may get overlooked during day to day cleaning and collect dust. Be sure to check the back of the stove, the top of the exhaust hood, and the tops of cabinet doors. (I’m always amazed at what can collect there!) A damp microfiber cloth is a quick way to get rid of any dust.
De-cloud your glasses. No matter where we have lived, after a while our clear glasses always wind up looking cloudy and dull. It doesn’t seem to matter if our water is hard or soft, they always wind up looking dirty all the time. Take a little vinegar and a soft sponge (like the DishFish dual) and wipe those clouds away.
Deodorize your garbage disposal. Since you have a few lemon wedges left from when you cleaned your microwave, put them to use yet again by tossing a few of the smaller ones into the disposal and running it. Your kitchen should be smelling bright and fresh by now!
Clean up any of the dishes you have already used and put them away. When we aren’t entertaining, I tend to let the dishes pile up in the sink and drainer. I hate scrubbing pots and pans with baked-on food and our dishcloths and sponges are always so icky.
Grab yourself some tools that will make the whole process easier and more pleasant: DishFish sponges! They are not like any sponges you have used before.
How does DishFish make cleaning easier? It’s the PowerCell Technology. Basically, what this means is that the open-cell structure of the sponges give them extra tough cleaning power that cuts through any mess in hot or cold water. Since the material they are made of is pliable and soft, you don’t need to worry about accidentally scratching any of your dishes or pots.
And if you are worried about that funky smell cloths and sponges can get, no fear here. DishFish products are made to stand up on the fish’s tail so that they can drain and dry easily. Even the dual-sided sponge is made to resist odors. The soft side is made with ForeverFresh Foam which has an added antimicrobial to fight bacteria and odor.

I need to get some of these sponges. I tend to avoid sponges because they end up smelling! And thanks for the reminder to clean out the inside of the microwave. 🙂

I love this! Having guests come over is so much fun, but it’s also stressful. You don’t want them coming in and thinking you live in filth. LOL

Exactly!!

These look like practical, cute sponges! And I like that they are not prone to holding odor. You’ve inspired me to wipe out my fridge now!
Maureen Fitzgerald says
I haven’t tackled the inside of the fridge just yet. But you’re right – it needs to be done.

I have to do that microwave cleaning tip. I do clean my microwave on a regular basis but I have not tried the trick using lemons. I presume the lemons would give a nice, fresh, clean smelling microwave too.
