Is ProActiv Just for Teens?

It seems to me, that if getting older is going to bring wrinkles and other nasty surprises, at the very least it should also provide an end to dealing with pesky breakouts.  It only seems fair.

I should probably back up and give you some background information here.  When I hit my teen years, I had skin issues – not HUGE acne issues, but I was plagued by pretty regular breakouts and clogged pores.  Pretty typical teen stuff.  I dealt with them using the typical teen products: Clearasil, Noxzema, the usual.  I also got really good at using foundation and cover up to hide my issues.

As I got older, I kept waiting to “grow out of” my breakouts.  It didn’t happen.  What DID happen is that my skin got much less tolerant of the products I was using to clear up my issues.  Now I was in a catch-22: I would either have breakouts and clogged pores or dry peeling skin from the “cures” to my skin issues (and many times the breakouts still happened!).  Ugh!!

When the folks at ProActiv approached me to give their product a try, I was skeptical but figured I didn’t have much to lose.  I have seen the infomercials and had to admit that the results they show are remarkable.  But I had also noticed that many of their testimonials came from teens and twenty-somethings.  I hadn’t seen any from someone like me – you know,  closer to forty than twenty.

When the ProActiv products arrived, I followed the directions exactly which basically consists of using their three step program at least twice a day. (The steps are to cleanse, tone, and then apply a thin layer of repairing lotion. Easy peasy!)

Then I waited, braced for the dry, itchy skin, and the peeling.  It never happened.

Now, I’m not going to pretend to understand why this benzoyl peroxide product doesn’t dry out my skin when all of the other ones I have used do, I just know that it doesn’t. Perhaps it has to do with the other ingredients that are used – I’m not sure.  I just know that my skin looks great.

Not only have my problem areas seen a drastic improvement – clearer (and smaller) pores, fewer breakouts – the rest of my skin looks better too.  That was a benefit I was not prepared for. My whole face is brighter, smoother, and not at all dried out.

So to sum up, if you are having skin issues, I highly recommend ProActiv, even if you are not a teen (although I really wish I had access to something like this when I was a teen!).  I liked it enough that, when the samples I was given were gone, I signed up for the auto-delivery.  I liked it THAT MUCH!

The Pros:

  • Clearer, breakout-free skin.
  • Moisturized, healthy skin – not dry or flaky.
  • An easy to use system – that WORKS!
The Cons:
  • It can take the color out of fabrics. (The information that came with the product did warn of this, but I didn’t really take it seriously.  I had my washcloth turn an interesting bleached color and had some spotting on my pillowcase.  Easily solved by switching both of these items to white.  But good to know ahead of time.)
  • Isn’t available in the stores.  You do have to plan ahead to make sure that you don’t run out.  The good news is you can sign up for auto-delivery so you are never caught without.

Right now, ProActiv is offer a sixty day money back guarantee and free shipping. So give it a try – what do you have to lose except your skin issues?
