Harry Potter Movie Night with Pretzel Wands and Butterbeer

Ever since our trip to Universal Studios last year, LJ has been a huge Harry Potter fan.  We have managed to collect most of the Harry Potter movies, but one was missing….

I was offered the chance to shop for the missing movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.  I was glad that I would be shopping for the DVD/Blu-Ray/Digital Copy since we wind up watching our favorite movies on a number of different players.  Our car DVD player ONLY takes DVDs, so Blu-Ray only copies can’t go on trips with us.  Our family room (where we usually watch movies) has a Blu-Ray player as we enjoy the superior picture quality.  (The digital copy is great if we are looking to watch it on my laptop.) So we have all of our bases covered with this one!!

We thought it would be fun to have some Harry Potter themed snacks to go along with the movie.  We decided on pretzel wands and butterbeer.  We headed out to our local Walmart where we could pick up the movie AND all of the groceries in one stop!

They had the coolest Harry Potter display for the movie!  Complete with a custom QR code to find more information.

We grabbed the ingredients we needed for the pretzel wands

and the butter beer.

To make the wands, melt chocolate or candy melts over low heat.  Dip each pretzel rod until coated evenly and either pour colored sugar onto the rod or roll the rod in the sugar.  Place on waxed paper until cooled completely.

LJ picked this colored sugar so that we would have a color for each of the Hogwart’s Houses!

To make the butterbeer, pour 1 cup of cream soda into a blender.  Add 3 tablespoons of butterscotch syrup, 1/4 cup of condensed milk, and 1/2 cup of ice.  Blend until smooth and enjoy in a frosted mug.  (It’s not exactly like the butterbeer served at Universal Studios, but it’s a reasonable facsimile.)

LJ snuck a quick taste before the movie even started!

If you are a Harry Potter fan and have seen all of the other movies, be sure to grab a copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 from your local Walmart!  Cook up some Harry Potter-inspired snacks and have a family movie night.

Thanks for sharing your ideas here with us. It really sounds like a great idea to watch potters final part with the snacks imitating their wands. Lately parents have been becoming innovative along with the kids. And it also gives them a great feeling that their parents are their very best friends.

I think my kids will love the ButterBeer. I’m going add that to the list of things to try.
