Okay, I’m just going to come clean right off the bat here. I dye my hair. I started getting my first grays back during my first year of teaching. I’m not saying the two events are related, buuuuut I’m not saying they aren’t. In the beginning, it was pretty easy to disguise them with a few strategically placed highlights. Fast forward about a decade and those few grays had turned into stripes. Like Pepe La Pew stripes.
Every once in awhile, I think about not coloring it anymore and I start to let it grow out. This time I let it go about an inch before I couldn’t stand it anymore. I don’t love the look and much prefer to have my hair my natural brown color, so I dye it.
During the time when all the salons were closed for an extended period of time, there were a LOT of people walking around with their gray roots showing. Because it was kind of a universal problem, no one felt too self-conscious about it. Some people searched for their own at home solutions and a LOT of people discovered a secret that I had known for a while.
Gray Away is a temporary root concealer that makes it look like you haven’t skipped a salon visit since Christmas. No, even better, it makes it look like you don’t even have any gray to conceal! It is just about the most natural-looking solution I’ve found.
Gray Away comes in a couple of different formulations. One is a Temporary Root Concealer Spray that is as easy to use as hair spray. The other is a Root Touch-Up Quick Stick which is basically like coloring your roots with a crayon. Both can be found at your local Ulta store or at Ulta.com. (Bonus – you can snag $3 off Gray Away until 8/22, so don’t dawdle!)
I’m loving being able to go a bit longer between all over dye jobs and being able to touch up the area around my temples that seems to start showing before the rest of my head. It’s affordable and so easy – no wonder everyone is talking about it!!
