Getting Our 8 A Day with the Whirlpool Water Filter

Those of you who have been with me for a while will remember that we had a bit of a scare with LJ last year that resulted in a ride to Children’s Hospital via ambulance and a follow up appointment with a pediatric cardiologist. Luckily, it turned out to be a minor issue, but resulted in a prescription for more water everyday for LJ.

Turns out that being even a little dehydrated can really aggravate LJ’s condition.  Since then, I’ve become much more aware of the fact that even I don’t drink nearly enough water unless I make a conscious effort to.

Since bottled water can be expensive (and hard on the environment), we rely on the water dispenser in the door of our fridge for our daily drinking water.  Our town has its own well, so our water is pretty hard and almost metallic tasting in addition to being chlorinated.  I grew up on unchlorinated water, so the taste really bothers me.

When we purchased our last fridge, I insisted on getting one with a built in water dispenser.  Since then, we have fallen in love with the Whirlpool filters that install easily at the base of the fridge.  It takes all of the taste out of the water and leaves behind…well, nothing. Which is pretty much what you’re going for, right?

We use the dispenser anytime we are using water that we will wind up consuming – for boiling pasta, making coffee, or just plain drinking.  We feel better knowing that Whirlpool’s water filters are certified by NSF International to reduce lead, sediments, chlorine-taste and odor that may be present in some, but not all, water supplies.

Looking to increase your own water intake?  For some great do it yourself flavored water, check out some of the recipes I discovered.  These have certainly made getting my eight glasses a day a little easier!

I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Whrilpool and received product samples and compensation to thank me for taking the time to participate.  All opinions expressed are my own.
