This past weekend, Lake Lawn Resort hosted Jay and me as we celebrated our birthdays. (Pro tip: Marry someone with a birthday within a few days of yours. It guarantees a big celebration every year!) I actually visited the resort with a friend some years ago; however, Lake Lawn has done a LOT of renovating since then and looks even better than ever.

We arrived on a chilly April day and were met with a warm fire in the lobby. Everything about Lake Lawn feels homey and comfortable, yet also upscale and luxurious. Think high-end lake house with all the comforts of home. It’s the perfect vibe if you are looking for relaxation while also wanting to be spoiled and pampered.
We checked into our Lodges King Suite and were impressed with how spacious and well-furnished it was. It contained a kitchenette that was fully stocked with whatever we might need if we were preparing any food as well as a dinette area. The living room had a fireplace, comfortable seating, and a large slider looking out on a patio with rocking chairs. The suite had two full bathrooms, one with an oversized tub and the other with a multi-nozzle shower. The bedroom had a gorgeous view of the lake and a super comfy king-sized bed.

After dropping off our luggage, we went for a walk around the grounds and along the lake. Between the beautiful daffodils, blue skies, and gorgeous views, we felt like we were on a movie set. (It was still early enough that the docks weren’t set up just yet, so I am including some pictures from my last visit as well.)

The highlight of our visit had to be the dinner we had at 1878 on the Lake. The view of the lake from the restaurant is stunning, and the ambiance in the restaurant is comfortable yet elegant. (Are you noticing a theme?)
We started off with a few drinks. Jay had the smoked cherry bourbon, and I had a glass of white wine.

The restaurant manager and chef stopped by to say hello and dropped off their Artisanal Cheese & Meat Board. What a delicious selection of meats and cheeses! We could have made a whole meal out of that, but restrained ourselves since we knew there was more incredible food coming.

For the main course, I ordered the sea scallops, and Jay took advantage of the Restaurant Week menu (available through April 26th). He selected the sausage and corn chowder, Italian sausage ragu, and chocolate cake for dessert. I snagged a rhubarb creme brulee for my dessert. We both agreed that our dishes were some of the best we have had anywhere. Between the beautiful views and the exceptional food, 1878 on the Lake is a dining experience that everyone should treat themselves to at least once!

Lake Lawn offers many different options for dining as well as activities. Other onsite restaurants include The Lookout Bar & Eatery (which often has live music, karaoke, or a sporting event on the large screen), the Isle of Capre Cafe (which is a quick service cafe featuring Starbucks coffee and ice cream among its offerings), The Clubhouse, which is a perfect place for golfers to grab some food or drinks between rounds, and seasonal Igloo dining in the winter.
There is no lack of activities to keep you busy during your stay, if that is what you would like. The Lake Lawn Queen, a stunning two-level, 76-foot cruise boat, is the best way to see Delavan Lake. The Majestic Oaks Golf Course is one of the Midwest’s most esteemed courses and offers a challenging game with stunning views. The resort also offers a full lineup of rentals, including speedboats, tritoons, paddleboards, kayaks, waverunners, a paddleboat, and even bikes.

There are also lawn games like Corn Hole, Ladder Ball. Bocce and others are available for rent. Kids can enjoy time at Bucky’s Playhouse, creating a seasonal craft, playing board games, or enjoying an outdoor game like kick ball or flag football. Once you are completely worn out, you can relax at Calladora Spa, which offers a wide selection of services.
Needless to say, we will be returning to Lake Lawn Resort again! Each season offers its own experience on the lake. Having enjoyed Lake Lawn during both Spring and Summer, I am looking forward to booking a Fall getaway next!
Big thanks to both Lake Lawn Resort and 1878 on the Lake for an unforgettable stay and fabulous birthday celebration!
