Amwell: Urgent Care at Your Fingertips

Imagine it’s a Friday night and something comes up that really needs to be addressed with a doctor. Maybe your child has a sore throat and you suspect they need an antibiotic or you turn your ankle during your weekly basketball game or maybe you can feel the flu coming on.  The thought of going to Urgent Care makes you shudder as you know what kind of a wait you will have on a weekend. Or worse, you consider heading to the Emergency Room even though you feel like it’s not really an emergency. (And if your insurance is like ours, the ER copay is enough to send you into cardiac arrest!)

Or here’s another scenario that happened to me. You’re traveling or on vacation and you have a minor medical emergency. In my case, I was in Orlando with my family and threw my back out. It was as simple as lifting my leg to get onto a ride and a muscle seized up. I tried to power through it, but I was miserable! What do you do when your own doctor is a thousand miles away? (Had I not been able to get a muscle relaxer that loosened up that knot, my vacation could have been ruined.) And no one wants to spend their vacation sitting in an Emergency Room or Urgent Care Center!! What to do?

How would you like to see a doctor online instead?

Sound too good to be true? (It kind of does, doesn’t it?) But it’s not. Thanks to Amwell, you can be seen by an online doctor which means not having to venture out of your house. Basically, you can be seen by a doctor on any connected device via video like your smartphone or tablet or you can opt to call in. One of the really cool features unique to Amwell is that you can select which doctor you’d like to see. So you get to see a doctor you are comfortable with, in the comfort of your own home – no driving through the weather, no germy waiting room, no sitting on the cold, paper covered table waiting for the doctor to come in.

Can I just tell you how handy it was to have Amwell available when I came down with a sinus infection the day before I was scheduled for a live TV segment and really did not have time to deal with it? I just hopped on my iPad where my Amwell doctor listened to my symptoms and agreed that I did indeed have a sinus infection (I’ve had enough to know what they feel like by now!) and was able to call in a prescription. All with no waiting – no waiting to make an appointment and no waiting at a doctor’s office. So convenient!

Amwell doctors are primary care, specialist physicians, licensed behavioral therapists and registered dietitians who are available 24/7.

Doctors on Amwell are board certified, with an average of 15 years in practice. Conditions they often treat are: bronchitis, cough, sinus infection, sore throat, urinary tract infection, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, pinkeye, flu, sprains and strains, cold, respiratory infection, headache, depression, anxiety, weight concerns, and smoking cessation.

The cost of Amwell is right around what many people pay for a doctor visit copay – $69 and also takes most major insurance so be sure to enter your info to possible have an even lower cost! In addition to saving you time and money, Amwell saves you stress as well. How? By saving you from Dr. Google! Seriously, how many times have you tried to self-diagnose and wound up worrying yourself even sicker with worst case scenarios you found online? Amwell is a much better option. And it’s available to you anywhere you have an internet connection – even the woods!!

Take Amwell for a test drive yourself! And be sure to use the code “AMWELL50” to get 50% off your first visit.

I had not heard of this service yet, but truly, I would be very interested. In Miami it’s very difficult to get a doctor appointment sometimes, and Lord forbid you need to reschedule, it could takes months for something to open up!

This is such a good idea, I love that it gives a professional alternative to doctor Google (which I am totally guilty of using) x

I love this idea! We’ve all been there at 2:00 AM on Saturday morning wondering what to do with our sick child…no more of that! I really like that you can choose your own doctor from the profiles also.

I just took my kiddo to the DR this morning, if it wasn’t for a physical I might have tried this service.

Great idea if you’re not sure how to handle an illness and it’s off hours. It would be good to speak to someone “face to face”.

I love this idea! The last time I needed a Dr Appointment they didn’t have anything available. And it was just for something that could have been handled over an online appointment like this. This could definitely save a lot of time!

I am so amazed at this Amwell option for people to see a doctor from home. I really love the concept, especially for someone like me who doesn’t go to the doctors all of the time for the little aches!

Amwell is an amazing way to get medical help when you need it. I hate having to go and wait to see the Doctor. I always have to wait a week just to get in.

I love this idea and wish it was always around. I hate having to take my 6 kids in to the doctor when I need to be seen quickly. The germs they pick up and then spread within our family from the doctors is ridiculous. This is a MUCh better option!
