I’ve been pretty open about the fact that I don’t know a whole lot about wine. I know what I like when I taste it, but am somewhat clueless when I walk into a store to buy it. Back when I was growing up in Connecticut, our little local liquor store had a guy who would advise you on what would go well with your meal. You’d go in, tell him what you were serving and about how much you wanted to spend, and he would pick out a bottle for you. And most of the time, he was right on the money. (Or so I’ve been told by my mom. I remember going with her to the store but was far too young to buy or drink alcohol.)
By the time I reached legal age, I had relocated to New Hampshire where the liquor stores are all run by the state government. I remember asking for help once and the employee pointed to one of the many rows and told me “the reds are down that way”. Luckily, I was not throwing a lot of formal dinner parties in my early twenties, so I guess that was about all the information I needed at the time.
These days, I do like to serve wine when we entertain and I may even enjoy a glass myself once in awhile with dinner. But I’m still feeling as clueless as I did in that NH liquor store when it comes to picking out a good one. I basically have the four types I know I like and keep serving them over and over, but honestly, I’d love to branch out and try some new ones.
ClubW.com steps in takes the place of that Connecticut liquor store salesman, pointing me toward wines that suit my specific taste. Your go through a series of steps on their website and then (like magic) tasty wine picked just for you arrives on your doorstep! It all starts when you answer 6 easy questions to help ClubW identify what you might like. No complicated “wine jargon” about how oaky or bodied it is – I never really understand what all that mean, do you? These are basic easy questions about how you take your coffee and how much salt you put on your food!

Once you’ve answered the questions, ClubW is able to recommend which wines would be perfect for you personally!

You select how many reds and whites you would like. Each recommended wine (and you’ll have lots to choose from) has a video with a real person describing it. You can also look around the page to see what types of foods it goes well with and what its general “personality” is.

You submit your choices and the bottles (almost) magically show up on your doorstep. Orders are filled twice a month, so you never have to wait too long for your wine. ClubW is a club, so you will have the opportunity to select new wines, or order more of your new favorites, each month. And you never have to leave your house! But don’t worry – there is no long term commitment and you can cancel at any time. (But why would you do that??)
Because I’ve become such a big ClubW fan, I wanted to share it with all of you AND offer you special deal! When you join ClubW, if you use this special link and use the discount code 411wismom, you will get a $13 credit toward your account, which is basically a free bottle of wine!
So, once you have all of this extra wine laying around, what can you do with it all?? One of my favorite ways to enjoy red wine in the summer is in sangria! I make a little differently than most, so I thought I’d share the recipe since it goes over really well with guests.
Wisconsin Mommy's Party Sangria Recipe, Club-W Review, and Free Wine!
Ingredients
- Red wine any kind will do
- Lemon
- Lime
- Orange
- Raspberries
- Blackberries
- Orange juice
- Any other fruit you have around
- 1/2 C. Sugar or other sweetener
- Ice
Instructions
- In a glass pitcher add lemon, orange, and lime sliced thin.
- Add any other fruit you might have around - in this batch I added some lemon apricots that were about to go bad.
- Add a splash of oranges juice.
- Pour red wine over fruit mixture, cover and allow to sit in the fridge overnight (at least)
- Just before serving, add berries and ice.
- I don't care for a super sweet sangria, so I often put less than what is called for - but makes yours to your taste!
- You really can't mess this recipe up - that's probably why I like it!! Play around with the amounts and types of fruit until you find a combination you really love.
I was given several bottles of a wine picked out just for me so that I could experience ClubW. This post may contain affiliate links – but they pay in wine, so please do click on them!

Sounds like you know as much about alcohol as I do. I cringe when “Potent Potables” comes on Jeopardy! lol
