I am generally a pretty healthy person – I don’t get sick a whole lot but when I do, it is usually a doozy. I can pretty much count on getting at least one really nasty cold during the typical cold and flu season. I someone who generally needs a lot of sleep when I am well, so I need even more when I’m not feeling my best. Unfortunately, when I’m all stuffed up and sneezing, it can be pretty hard to sleep and it seems like that just makes me feel worse.
Now, I do my best to avoid getting sick in the first place. I wash my hands about a bazillion times a day, I am a nut about wiping down all of the common surfaces in our house, and I try to stay well rested and well hydrated. But sometimes that nasty cold bug makes it through all of the antibacterial soap, hand sanitizer, and cleaning wipes. And then I count on having medicine that both works and lets me work.
Anyone who is a mom knows that there are no sick days for moms! Even worse, many times while we are sick there are others in the house not feeling well either. That means we not only have to take care of ourselves, but them too. That is when I pull out the NyQuil and DayQuil. Both of these products have been staples in our medicine cabinet for years. You know why? They work!! The last thing I need is something that makes me feel groggy during the day or keeps me revved up all night. I know that when I take DayQuil, I will get relief from my symptoms without feeling like I could fall asleep standing up and NyQuil allows me to get the healing sleep I need without my heart racing.
I have a few other things that I love to use to make me feel better when I have a cold. I am a big fan of the steamy hot bath with Epsom salts and some eucalyptus oil in the water. I also love a hot drink made with apple cider vinegar, cinnamon, and raw honey. And I also rely on the old stand-by…chicken noodle soup. What is your favorite cold remedy??
Just a few common sense things – I’m not a doctor, nor do I play one on the internet. Check with your doctor if you are feeling really sick – and I don’t mean doctor Google. If you are taking any medications that might interact, check with your doctor before taking something new. Always follow the dosage guidelines on any medication and remember that NyQuil and DayQuil are not recommended for kids under 12.
I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Vicks DayQuil & NyQuil. I received product samples and a promotional item as a thank you for participating.
