Thanksgiving Leftovers Wontons Recipe

Every year, Americans face the same dilemma: What to do with all those Thanksgiving leftovers??? We always enjoy having turkey sandwiches once or twice after Thanksgiving. But after you’ve had them a few times, it’s totally normal to want something different. We’ve been playing around with some ideas and have come up with a new family favorite.

Thanksgiving Leftovers Wontons!!

Wontons are fun for a few reasons. First, they are like edible envelopes with foodie goodness inside. This makes them easy to eat with your hands which is also oddly satisfying. They add a fun crunch to food as well. I was always intimidated by trying to cook with Wontons, but it turns out to be pretty simple. We don’t do a lot of deep-frying here so we don’t own a fryer. I was able to get really good results just by using my cast iron pan.

For this Thanksgiving Leftovers Wonton recipe, you’ll need:

1 1/2 C shredded turkey breast
1/2 C dried cranberries
1 C cranberry sauce
1/3 slivered almonds
1 pkg (14 oz) of Won ton wrappers
1 qt of oil (for frying)
Thanksgiving leftovers wonton ingredients

Put the shredded turkey in a bowl and add the dried cranberries, 1/2 cup (half of the amount)cranberry sauce, and slivered almonds.

Mix until everything is coated with the cranberry sauce evenly.

Lay out the Won ton wrappers and fill with about 1 tbs of the filling.  Don’t over fill them or you won’t be able to close them.

Moisten the edges of the won tons and close them forming triangles.

Then just fry them up until they are golden and crispy! (You can use a deep fryer if you have one or else a frying pan.)

When they are done, drain them on a paper towel.  Serve with the last 1/2 C of cranberry sauce for dipping.
And that is the basic recipe. It was a hit with everyone from the grandparents to the six year old (who doesn’t like anything but hot dogs and mac-n-cheese lately).

You can also get creative – I like a small dollop of cream cheese added to the filling of each one.  You can also incorporate other items you have left over: stuffing, cooked onions, or green beans!  Play around and see what your family likes.  Create a new day after Thanksgiving tradition.
