Budgeting with the American Express Prepaid Card

I am pretty good about sticking to a budget.  Whether it’s my household budget or my business, I strive to enter receipts and spending in a timely manner and keep an eye on bank balances.

This becomes a bit more challenging when I’m travelling, both for pleasure or business. Between those little snacks you grab, the much needed coffee, and other various expenses that come up, you can burn through quite a bit of money without really realizing it.  Combine that with not always balancing accounts in a timely manner (hard when you’re away from home), and you could definitely lose track of your budget easily.

Some people solve this by using cash on the road.  While that certainly helps you to keep an eye on spending, it also leaves you at risk of being up a creek if you should lose that cash or have it stolen.

The offers a great solution to this problem.  The funds you put on the card do not expire, and if you lose it, it can easily be replaced. Users have full control via an online account – with the ability to load money, view transaction history, and set up alerts. Plus, with the you get some of the same benefits you’ve come to expect from American Express like Roadside Assistance, Purchase Protection and 24/7 Customer Service – things that are especially helpful when travelling.

The American Express Prepaid Card also offers a great solution to other money dilemmas such as gift giving, providing spending cash for a nanny or babysitter, making cash available to your college student, or creating a grocery budget.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of American Express and received compensation to thank me for taking the time to participate.
