The best RPG games to play on PC

RPGs are popular in gaming for their detailed worlds and characters that let you spend hours building skills and exploring stories. If you play online with others around the world, a Tor browser is recommended to protect your sensitive data. You don’t pick up an RPG just to pass time. You step into it when you want something that holds your attention beyond a quick session. On PC, smoother performance, mods and more control over how you play turn each session into a story you help shape, whether you’ve got an hour or a full weekend.

Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate 3 pulls you into a situation that feels chaotic from the start. Your character gets abducted by Mind Flayers, and a failed transformation leaves you with strange powers instead of losing control of your mind. From there, you travel with others in the same position, searching for a cure while dealing with threats that change depending on your decisions.

You don’t follow a fixed path because the game reacts to how you talk, fight and explore. If you decide to avoid combat and talk your way through a situation, the world responds. If you choose conflict, that also shapes what comes next. You end up learning how small choices can change entire outcomes, which keeps each playthrough different.

Divinity: Original Sin 2

Divinity: Original Sin 2 places you in Rivellon, a world where magic known as Source has become dangerous and tightly controlled. You start as an imprisoned Sorcerer, but you soon discover you are Godwoken, meaning you carry a role tied to the world’s future.

You interact with the world through elemental systems that let you combine fire, water, poison and electricity in creative ways. If you freeze water before an enemy steps into it, you can control movement. If you combine poison with fire, you change the entire battlefield.

Disco Elysium

Disco Elysium takes a different approach by removing traditional combat almost entirely. You play a detective who wakes up with no memory and must rebuild both his identity and the details of a murder case. Every conversation becomes a way to gather clues or shape how others see you.

Instead of fighting, you rely on skill checks and dialogue choices that influence how the investigation unfolds. You might push too hard in a conversation and lose trust or take a more careful approach and uncover hidden details.

The Witcher 3

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt gives you a large open world where your choices carry weight beyond the main story. You play as Geralt of Riva, a monster hunter searching for his adopted daughter while a powerful force known as the Wild Hunt threatens everything around him.

You don’t just move from quest to quest because even side missions often build their own stories. A simple job to clear a village can turn into a moral decision that stays with you later in the game. Changing weather and day-night cycles also shift how you approach fights and exploration, which keeps the world feeling active rather than static.
