For this week’s Field Trip Friday, we headed down to Milwaukee and visited American Science and Surplus. I had heard from several teacher friends that AS&S was a lifesaver when they needed things for their classroom. Several of my homeschooling friends clued me in that it goes way beyond any teacher store I might have seen before and is more like a general store for unusual things.
Located at 6901 W. Oklahoma, American Science and Surplus describes itself as a store with “incredible stuff” at “unbelievable prices”. If you decide to visit, carve out a few hours to spend really exploring it. We started out with the scavenger hunt.
Since it’s kind of hard to describe what AS&S is all about, I am going to tell the story with pictures this time.
Everyone needs a burp gun…
Avoid the Halloween rush – grab your mini coffins today!
The English major in me really wants an Edger Allen Poe lunch box.
Everything you need for your garden from a pH meter to squirrel underpants!
Remember Beta and VHS???
For your space enthusiast!! (See? It’s not all crazy stuff!)
If you’re looking for an excuse to get down to American Science and Surplus, check out the Science Party they are having on 7/19.
Looks like a lot of fun!!
Thanks so much to American Science and Surplus for making our visit so much fun. We got all but two items on the scavenger hunt without any help. The nice folks who work there gave us some gentle hints for the last two items and LJ was so excited to earn his prize for completing it.
On our way back home, we stopped at a new frozen yogurt shop just up the street from AS&S called Flavorella’s.
It’s set up where you grab a dish and add whatever base(s) you would like, then top with your choice of add on toppings. We loved that the base flavors were somewhat unusual (Sea Salt Pretzel, Birthday Cake) in addition to the typical chocolate and vanilla.
We all enjoyed our creations and will definitely be back!!
