Thank you Allstate for sponsoring this post. I chose to write this post because doing good in local communities is at Allstate’s core.
Sometimes it’s easy to overlook just how hopeful the future generation is. Okay, this isn’t really a new thing right? It seems like every generation tends to shake their head at the one coming up behind them. We don’t always see spotlights on the great things that young people are doing, but so often there are kids doing really amazing things that we should hear more about!
Not to brag about my kiddo and his friends, but I can’t say enough about all the ways they find to give back to their community! One of my son’s friends heard that our local Ronald McDonald House (RMH) was running low on toys. If you’ve never heard of the Ronald McDonald House, it is a place where families can stay while their children are receiving treatment at nearby Children’s Hospital. It is much homier than a hotel and far more affordable. The folks that volunteer at RMH offer SO much support to both the patients and their families. One of the things they do is give every child who checks in a token that they can use to choose a toy from the “Magic Room”. Josh’s friend started a toy drive for his Eagle project and collected enough toys to fill three SUVs! Amazing! Allstate points to kids like this when they say that young people aren’t waiting for change to happen – they are MAKING it happen!
Josh also volunteers at a local horse farm where therapeutic riding is offered to those who need it. Once the adults in charge saw how serious he was about doing a good job, they gave him quite a bit of responsibility. He is allowed to go out to the field to fetch the horses, lead them in, brush them and clean their hooves and even help to lead them around the rink slowly while children are riding.
I love hearing about how Josh and his friends are excited and inspired by the idea of giving back to the community. I believe it is important for kids to see other members of the community doing the same – especially corporate members like Allstate. Allstate’s dedication to the communities where they live and work is at the core of who they are as a company. By exhibiting this, they serve as a great role model to the kids in the communities they serve and help inspire them to dream and achieve great things.
Need more convincing that the future generation cares? Check out this video where a spunky class of fourth graders dream up an enormous community improvement project and then see it come to life. (And I dare you to keep a dry eye through the whole video – I couldn’t!) Allstate is inspiring the next generation as well as helping them learn critical skills like problem-solving, empathy and teamwork. But enough of my pontificating – just watch the video!! (Then go do some good yourself and inspire some future leaders!)
