I travel quite a bit with my job and my favorite trips are the ones where I get to take my family along too. We took several of those family trips this past year and have a few more in the works for the near future. Family vacations have sure changed a lot since I went on trips with my own family as a child and most of those changes can be summed up in one word –
I’m the first to sing the praises of technology when planning and taking a family vacation and it has played a large part in all of our own trips. Best Buy even has a section of their website dedicated to technology and travel. I can guarantee you’ll want to check it out as it is chock full of ideas and products to enhance your travels. Best Buy asked me to pick one favorite to talk about and I had a really hard time narrowing the down as I could relate to each one!
Since I had to pick only one, I went with the family photo scavenger hunt!
Josh’s school has an annual “High Interest Day” which is kind of like career day but they also include hobbies and activities that kids might be interested in like Tae Kwon Do, photography, and a nice lady even came and talked about blogging and vlogging for a living (three guesses who that was!!). Josh took a photography class and discovered a new hobby that he not only loves. but is actually really good at.
For the class, the kids were given a disposable camera to use and he got some amazing shots even with that. Once he discovered digital photography and the joy that is instant viewing, he was really hooked! I love the idea of giving everyone on a trip a camera and having a list of scavenger hunt items to photograph while on the trip. Not only does it give everyone something to keep them busy (no “this is boring” complaints!) but you wind up with some really cool vacation pictures that might even be from a really different perspective than what you would have gotten yourself. During our road trip to Branson, we passed through St. Louis and I couldn’t manage to get a good shot of the arch. Josh was on the opposite side of the vehicle and got a perfect shot of it.
Best Buy has a great selection of cameras, lenses, and tablets so make sure you check them out.
