Monday night, I had the chance to go and seen an advanced screening of The Choice. I should preface this review with the fact that I have yet to see a Nicholas Sparks movie I haven’t liked, so I may be a bit biased. Or I’m just the personification of his target market. Either way, yes – I did go into the movie expecting to like it. Just being transparent here.
I hadn’t read the book, but had seen a trailer that hinted at a certain event, so I was kind of braced for that event throughout the whole movie. I kind of wished they hadn’t put that in the trailer, but I get why they did. (I’m purposely being vague so that I don’t spoil it for anyone who hasn’t seen the trailer. If you have, you know what I’m talking about.) Because of my “advanced knowledge” about what was going to happen, I also thought I knew what “the choice” that was going to have to be made was but it turned out I was wrong.
I really liked the characters in the movie, especially Gabby, the main female character. The supporting cast members were also really good and I felt like they did a great job conveying the family vibe the story revolves around. It took me a while to warm up to Travis, the main male character, but it took Gabby a while to as well, so I guess I’m in good company! You can take a peek at the general plot of the movie below and catch a quick preview at the bottom of this post.
About the Movie:
When feisty medical student Gabby Holland moves in next door to perennial ladies’ man Travis Shaw, they embark on a surprising romantic journey neither imagined possible. Travis has always believed a serious relationship would cramp his easygoing lifestyle, while Gabby is preparing to settle down with her long-term boyfriend—until an irresistible attraction between the unlikely couple upends both of their well-planned lives. Spanning a decade and tracing the evolution of a love affair that is ultimately tested by life’s most defining events, this story features a memorable ensemble of friends and family in Sparks’s beloved North Carolina setting, culminating with the question that every couple must ask themselves: how far would you go to keep the hope of love alive?
In the meantime, I have a fun giveaway to share with you. The folks from the movie sent me a cool box of goodies and I also get to give one away to a Wisconsin Mommy reader too. Here’s what’s included in the prize package:
- A $2
5 Visa gift card to use to go see the movie (and get snacks, of course!!). Okay – it’s actually an e-gift card that will be emailed to your inbox and you can use it for whatever you want, but you should TOTALLY use it to go see The Choice – trust me!
- The Choice Tie-In Movie book
- A The Choice bookmark
- Sea Shell Wind Chimes. I realize this might seem a bit odd, but they are a key part of the movie and once you see it, you’ll want your own set.
