Have you ever needed the aid of a first responder? Those of you who have been following me since the early days might remember that Josh took a ride in an ambulance back when he was in Kindergarten. I’m sharing that story again thanks to our post sponsor, T-Mobile (who has a special discount program just for first responders).
You know how you have those certain moments in life that you can remember clear as day even years later? I remember sitting at the computer down in the family room (before I had a dedicated office space) and seeing the school’s number on the caller ID. I answered the call and something about the school secretary’s voice made me uneasy. I asked her if Josh was okay and she paused and replied, “No – he’s not.” She explained that he had passed out and he seemed to be having trouble coming back to full consciousness. I dropped everything and drove to the school.
Our elementary school is basically around the corner, so I arrived just behind a policeman who responded to the 911 call. The ambulance pulled in behind me seconds later. One of the things that still sticks in my mind all these years later is how calming all of the first responders were with me. Once Josh was out of the chair he had been sitting in and laying on the gurney, he started to regain his color and awareness but once 911 is called, a student needs to be taken to the hospital (for good reason).
The paramedics asked which hospital I’d like to have him taken to and were very reassuring. They allowed me to ride in the ambulance and were very receptive to my suggestion that we check Josh’s blood sugar to rule that out as a cause. They explained what would happen once we arrived at Children’s Hospital and how I should direct my husband to meet up with us. Their assuring and calm manner kept me from completely freaking out. they even gave Josh a stuffed animal to hold so he wouldn’t be as scared. I credit them with keeping both Josh and I completely calm during one of the scariest moments in both of our lives. I will be forever grateful to those paramedics for their help.
I love that T-Mobile launched their Magenta First Responder Plan ion November 1st.. This gives first responders and their families the best discount off of wireless service with 50% off family lines. (This is the same discount that the military, veterans and their families get with T-Mobile’s Magenta Military plan.)
I can never resist sharing a pic of Jay in uniform!!
What exactly does the plan offer? country’s state and local law enforcement officers, firefighters and EMS personnel, and the small businesses they own can get 20% off the first line and 50% off up to five additional voice lines.
