After two months that felt more like fall than anything else, Summer has finally hit these parts with a vengeance! The later part of August is proving to be exactly what we’ve come to expect – hot, humid, and sticky. As someone who actually prefers the cooler temps (hey – I said cooler, not cold so don’t throw anything or leave nasty comments implying I want winter back!) I find these hot and humid days less than enjoyable. I’ve collected a little arsenal of things to help me get through the end of the summer without melting!
Back when Josh was a toddler, I discovered Boogie Wipes and feel in love with them. I loved that they were soft and just the right amount of moist. I was able to overlook the fact that most of ours were grape-scented (Josh’s favorite) and used them quite a bit myself to freshen up. I must not have been the only mom doing this since Puff’s teamed up with Boogie Wipes and came out with Fresh Faces for adults. They are perfect for those hot days where your make-up has melted into a disaster and all you want to do is wash your face, but you are out and about so you can’t. They help you cool down and look fresh and they come in great grown-up scents like lavender and even Vick’s for when those late summer allergies are making you miserable. A 45 ct pack is only $1.99 at Target!
Yes, I know I’ve raved about this convenient way to stay cool before, but I’ve fallen even more in love with them as the summer has gotten hotter! I hate being all sweaty and sticky and would probably spend most of August standing in a fairly cool shower if I could. These cloths at least make me feel like I just got out of the shower. Not only are they cooling while you are using them, but they leave behind a gentle, silky powder that keep you feeling fresh longer than even a shower would. These were really had to find at the beginning of the summer, but I’ve been able to find them pretty consistently at Amazon.com.
I love a nice cold glass of juice on a hot day, but I’ve been trying really hard not to drink all of my calories this summer. I was really excited when I heard about Bai5 because it is only 5 calories for a nice big 8 oz serving. In addition to that, Bai has all kinds of crazy good antioxidants. It’s made from a part of the coffee pant you probably weren’t aware of. When coffee beans are harvested, there is actually a fruit around the bean. That fruit is full of all kinds of good-for-you radical fighting compounds that keep you healthy. My only concern was taste – was it going to taste healthy?? I was very pleasantly surprised at how much I loved Bai5! It has become my go-to drink this summer – refreshing and energizing (but no shakes like with iced coffee) and the huge variety of flavors are all good. Molokai Coconut might be my current favorite. I’ve found the best price to be at Target where you can grab them for under $2.
Seattle’s Best Frozen Coffee Blends
If you know me at all, you know I love my coffee. As much as I love a hot coffee in the cooler weather, a frozen coffee drink in the summer is a MUST. I discovered Seattle’s Best Frozen Coffee treats back when we had a Seattle’s Best in our local Borders. But then Borders closed up and I was left alone with my cravings. Thank goodness Seattle’s Best heard my sobs and created an easy way to get that signature taste at home. You can pick up any of the four frozen blends in the freezer section of your local supermarket and whip up a delicious coffee treat without sweltering in the local drive thru.
We don’t drink soda in our house, so lemonade is Josh’s drink of choice in the summer. I struggled with trying to find one that didn’t have either high fructose corn syrup or aspartame in it and had just about given up. Luckily Honest (who I already loved for all of their awesome tea varieties) came out with Zero Lemonade which is sweetened with stevia. Not only does it not have any sugar or calories, it is organic, non-GMO, and gluten-free. Now THAT’S some good stuff!!
