So here I am in month 4 of the Shaklee 180 Turnaround program and my motivation is, well, a little lacking. Summer vacation came during the first part of the month and I’m already missing the routine and schedule we had going when school was in session. (Have I mentioned that I thrive on routine?) So I’ve been looking for a little motivation to get my booty going in the exercise department.
My favorite form of exercise is walking, but I tend to get board if I just go walking for the sake of walking, so I decided I needed to spice it up a bit. I see this lady walking around town but figured I would probably get myself killed by wandering into traffic or walking into a tree so I didn’t even attempt reading a book while walking. (I give this lady mad props – I see her all over the place – crossing intersections, along main roads, and she hasn’t gotten hit by a car yet (that I know of). I do always have the urge to stop and explain to her about Audible.com though.
My solution was to listen to either a book on tape or a podcast while I was walking. I wound up getting so engrossed in my book that I must have slowed down my pace. I got home and realized my 3 mile walk took me an extra 20 minutes. Oops!! That’s not going to do it!
Then I remembered back in 1909, I mean 1999, when I was really motivated to fit into my wedding dress without having to make any alterations and I was really working it on the treadmill. I had a certain CD that had a bunch of songs that all had a thumping beat that used to keep me moving. I dug around the basement until I found the box with all of my really old CDs (that probably hadn’t been unpacked since we moved here) and BINGO!! I found it.

After I had used this for my morning workout for a few months, I would automatically start to sweat whenever one of these songs came on the radio – even if I wasn’t working out.
Since I have no idea where my old CD player even is anymore, I downloaded the songs onto my iPhone and set off for a walk. This time I beat my usual time by 5 minutes!! Guess I’ll stick to what works (even if it is a little outdated).
