Purchasing Power for Federal Employees and Retired Military

This post was sponsored by Purchasing Power as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central and all opinions expressed in my post are my own.

We are excited to be partnering with Purchasing Power, to help bring you an alternative way to help military retirees and federal employees/retirees deal with unexpected expenses.

What do you think of when you hear the term “fixed income?”If you’re like me, it’s one of those terms you kind of gloss over in your head when you hear it. You know it tends to refer to older, retired people and it means they have a set amount of money coming in each month. And you don’t really give it much more thought than that.

Until you have a loved one (or maybe yourself) on a fixed income with an unexpected expense. Let me give you an example. My father-in-law served in the Army and retired quite a while ago. His pension from his service plus social security was the “fixed income” that came in to support my mother-in-law and him each month. They had a budget and were pretty comfortable as long as things plugged along smoothly.

But what happens when you have an unplanned expense? In my in-laws’ case, they needed to replace a major appliance. To someone on a fixed income, this can be a pretty disruptive challenge. Luckily, there is a program designed to help with exactly this scenario.

Purchasing Power is a program offered to military retirees and federal civilian employees and retirees as an organizational benefit. Within Purchasing Power’s online store, they can shop over 40,000 brand-name goods and services and pay for them right from their paycheck with up to 12 months of payment – without interest, hidden fees, or credit checks. Over 150,000 current and retired federal employees and retired military personnel are already enjoying this benefit.

What are the advantages of Purchasing Power? It allows those on a fixed income to spread the financial impact of a major purchase over up to 12 months instead of taking the financial hit all at once. The payments are automatically deducted from payroll, so there are no monthly checks to remember to send. And the products are owned right away – this is NOT rent to own. It’s a much better option than a high-interest credit card or loan. With over 40,000 name-brand products, you can replace that stove or refrigerator when it breaks, set your college student up for success with a new laptop or whatever unexpected expense pops up!

Whether you take advantage of this program yourself or let a loved one know about it, Purchasing Power wants to help you save some additional money for being a Wisconsin Mommy reader. Use the code “25GOVSHOP” for 25% off your first purchase and free shipping.
