I’ve always had kind of a love/hate relationship with my nails. I’ve always liked the way they look when they are all done up and pretty, but would get frustrated by the fact that they never stayed that way for very long. I tried everything – salon manicures, polishes that swore they were “diamond finished” and wouldn’t chip, you name it and I tried it – but they always chipped within a day or two. I finally gave up and resigned myself to keeping them short and unpolished.
Then I discovered gel polish manicures.
I loved that they lasted two weeks and actually grew out before they even chipped. I thought I had discovered the perfect answer BUT (there’s always a BUT, isn’t there?) there were a couple of things that threatened to rain on my parade. First was the cost. Gel manicures were at least $30 a pop and that was adding up pretty quickly. Next was the chemicals they needed to use to remove the polish after the two weeks – acetone does not seem very healthy to me and I was soaking my fingers in it every two weeks, not to mention the toll it was taking on my nails. Finally, I was a little concerned about the UV light that was used to cure the polish. I realize it is not the same as baking in a tanning booth, however, I have very light Irish skin and a family history of skin cancer, so any UV exposure is concerning to me. It does build up over time.
Suddenly, my perfect nail solution wasn’t looking so perfect after all.
Then my friend Mandi introduced me to Jamberry nail wraps and offered to send me a few to try. Man – I was HOOKED!!! Basically, the nail wraps are like stickers you put on your nails that look just like polish. They also last for about two weeks and don’t chip. However, you don’t need nasty chemicals to remove them, cancer-causing lights to cure them and they cost a fraction of what a gel manicure costs! Each $15 sheet provides two manicures AND two pedicures!! Plus, you can get them in all kinds of detailed designs like your favorite sports team’s logo, holiday themes, or whatever you’d like. Check out all the options on Mandi’s Jamberry website.
