If you’ve ever wondered if you should try microdermabrasion at home yourself, I have my own first-hand experience to share with you here thanks to my partnership with Trophy Skin. Trophy Skin makes a variety of high-quality devices that you can use at home to help improve your skin without a visit to the medispa. Most of their devices are either to help with anti-aging or acne. I selected the MicrodermMD (Home Microdermabrasion System) to try out.
I shared some before microdermabrasion pictures in a previous post and then went on to use the microdermabrasion system for six weeks. I started out using it only a couple of times a week as I can tend to have sensitive skin. Once I had used it several times and was confident that my skin could handle it, I bumped up the frequency with which I used it a bit. I found the MicrodermMD system to be much less irritating than when I had microdermabrasion done at the medispa.
There are a number of things that I love about doing microdermabrasion at home.
First is obviously the cost. The MicrodermMD machine costs $299. Since my local medispa charges over $100 per treatment, the system pays for itself in just three uses.
The second thing I love about using the MicrodermMD system is that I can skip making appointments that interfere with my schedule. I get to use it whenever works best for me – at home!! The device has a built-in mirror, so I’m not even stuck in the bathroom for my treatments. I have been known to plop myself down in front of my favorite TV show and take care of a treatment while watching TV in the family room. And that week when the temperature was well below zero? I was pretty happy not to have to leave the house!
The last reason I love my MicrodermMD system may sound vain, but it is still valid! When I go to the medispa for microdermabrasion, I go without makeup and generally don’t put any on after my treatment either. So if my appointment is in the morning, that’s a whole day without makeup for me. And I generally do not feel really great about going out without any makeup. By doing my microdermabrasion at home, I can do it right before bed and give my skin the whole night to rest up before putting on makeup in the morning!
So what were my results with microdermabrasion at home?
I’ve been really pleased with my results! Now, I should preface this by saying that any improvements in fine lines and wrinkles take a good 4-6 weeks to see. However, I did notice a substantial improvement in how smooth my skin felt after the first use. I thought I was doing a pretty good job of exfoliating my skin before I started using the MicrodermMD, so I was kind of shocked at the huge difference I felt after even just one pass with the wand. After about 6 weeks of use, I did notice that the fine lines around my eyes (crows feet) looked less noticeable. The lines on my forehead are a bit softer but were not improved as much as the crows feet. Since the wrinkles in my forehead are much deeper (and have been there a lot longer!), that didn’t surprise me.
What I really love is that my makeup goes on much more easily and evenly. Along with smoother feeling skin comes better-looking skin! Am I ready to face the world with no makeup at all? No – I’m not sure there’s a machine that could produce THAT for me! But I am loving that my drugstore foundation goes on like an expensive department store brand and looks flawless. I feel more confident, and isn’t that what it’s all about in the end?
Is it hard to do microdermabrasion at home?
There was a part of me that was a bit concerned that I was going to accidentally hurt myself or do something wrong. The MicrodermMD System makes the whole process incredibly easy. It has an auto setting that automatically changes the suction as you move from one part of your face to another. It even shows you on the screen how you should be moving the wand. It really is fool-proof. As long as you start out slow and see how your skin reacts, you can go from there and adjust the settings to be exactly what works best for you.
Will I continue my microdermabrasion at home treatments now that the campaign is done?
Heck yeah!! That is not even a question. Now that I have seen how smooth and even my skin can be with microdermabrasion, why would I stop? If you want to experience the convenience of at home skin care treatments, check out this unit or others like it.

Oh wow! I could really use this. I’m starting to get crow’s feet. I didn’t realize this was something that could be done at home.

I have never done this treatment at home or by professionals but it seems to work well on you. If I can treat my skin and refresh at the same time I would try it too.

I have always bn curious about microdermabrasion. I would probably like trying it at home like this better than at a fancy spa or somewhere.

I have always been a little freaked out to try this myself. It really doesn’t look hard though!

I am loving the sound of this kit. It’s so expensive to get this done by a professional.

The results were noticeable, that’s for sure! In my age, I could use some wrinkles disappearing. haha!

That’s pretty cool you can do this at home and get professional results. I don’t have crows feet yet, but I could definitely use some work on my forehead lines. I am going to bookmark this for a future beauty tool investment. Thank you for your honest review.

How neat! I think it is great you were able to try this at home and are having a positive experience with it. Isn’t it cool how there are so many things we can do on our own now that our Mothers couldn’t when they were our age?

It would be awesome to be able to do this at home and get rid of those fine lines. I think it would be better to invest in your own machine than to have it done in salons or spas which could cost much more per session.

I am glad that we can purchase our own microdermabrasion machine. I tried having that treatment once at a salon and it cost a lot. Having my own machine will be more cost effective and I can always use it in the privacy of my home.

The convenience and cost are what sold me for sure!
