Back when I was a new mom (many years ago), it certainly did not seem like there were many resources available to me. I should clarify that there were a LOT of medical resources available if I were to have trouble nursing or couldn’t afford a crib. What I really felt was lacking was input from other moms on the day to day stuff.
I wanted to hear about where a good place to hold a birthday party for a bunch of rambunctious three-year-old boys would be. I wanted to know what restaurants had customers that wouldn’t glare at me if my child started crying loudly. And when winter hit, and it was well below zero outside, I wanted to know where I could take my VERY active toddler to burn off some energy.
Luckily for moms these days, there is a resource that gives you all of those insider tips from other moms!
Upparent is a new website where parents can share family-friendly recommendations about everything family and parenting. Parents can weigh in on the best places to go, things to buy, and things to do with your family. Each post is a conversation where real parents like you and me are making suggestions and offering opinions.
The actual content on Upparent is easy to navigate and use. The content is organized into lists and polls and can be searched and saved to create your own reference guide. The content is constantly evolving and being added to (just like any conversation) as new people chime in. And it provides conversation based on your location, so all of it is relevant to you.
The list that I would have had saved, bookmarked, and probably tattooed on my arm? The list of Kid-Favorite Indoor Playgrounds in the Milwaukee area. While I did eventually find most of these, it took me a loooong time. I would have loved to have been able to log into Upparent and have those answers at my fingertips!
I can also add my own favorites, like LeFleur’s Gym, to help other moms. This gym in Germantown is a favorite because it offers classes for students of all levels. In addition to classes and birthday parties, LeFleur’s also has multiple open gym times each week where kids can bounce on in-floor trampolines, jump into foam pits, swing on parallel bars and trapezes as well as run around on the mat area.
