Living in Wisconsin, food around here is all about dairy (as I’m sure you can imagine). There are cheese curds (both fried and regular), every kind of yummy cheese you can imagine, and the overwhelming favorites – ice cream and frozen custard. If you’re not from around here, frozen custard is a particularly rich ice-cream-like frozen treat. I had never heard of it until I moved here, but now that a local burger and frozen custard chain is expanding across the country, more and more people are being introduced to it.
For anyone who is lactose intolerant, living in Wisconsin is rough. Especially in the summer.
Lactose intolerance can show itself in many ways. For some people it is just gas and some mild bloating. For others, it can be severe enough to cause painful stomach cramps, diarrhea, and even vomiting. I know a number of people who are constantly weighing the immediate gratification of indulging in a cold summer treat with the after effects they will have to deal with if they sneak some ice cream or custard.
Thanks to LACTAID®, they don’t have to make that choice any more.
You are probably familiar with LACTAID® from seeing it in the milk section of your local grocery store. You may have even been acquainted with their ice cream which was available in four flavors – Butter Pecan, Cookies & Cream, Chocolate, and Vanilla. While we certainly loved these, we were getting a tad bit jealous of the people who could sample all of the local custard joint’s daily flavors.
Then LACTAID® released two new flavors for the summer and we were in heaven!
Yep – LACTAID® introduced Salted Caramel Chip and Berry Chocolate Crumble flavors and they are amazing! No more custard envy here… I’m not sure what kind of magical sorcery the LACTAID® people use, but their ice cream is made our of real dairy and tastes just like your favorite kind, but without any of the lactose or nasty effects it brings on. So basically, it’s delicious, rich, creamy, and comes in all the cool flavors you crave but is easy to digest.
Here’s a shopping tip: I looked at several of our local grocery chains and some had one or two flavors but the only place I found that had them all was Walmart. It was even less than the typical $4.49, so I grabbed a bunch!!
I kind of want to start petitioning LACTAID® for some new flavors to add for next year – what do you think?
What flavor should we request next??
This post is part of a delicious and sponsored partnership with LACTAID®. Yep, I get to eat ice cream for my job this week. It’s tough, but someone has to do it…
