When I was a kid, I wanted to see a UFO so badly that I would sit for hours staring up into the Connecticut sky just hoping to see any kind of light. I never did see anything other than the occasional airplane, but that curiosity stayed with me into adulthood. I always loved movies that explored space and what might be out there. As a kid, I loved ET and seeing Contact actually inspired me to read Carl Sagan’s “Cosmos” – that was NOT light reading BTW. Because of this interest, I felt that this sponsored post about the movie Interstellar was a perfect for for me.
I still love a good space movie and love seeing how different directors portray what they envision out there beyond our atmosphere. Interstellar looks particularly fascinating! Starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine, Bill Irwin and Ellen Burstyn, Interstellar will be in IMAX theaters November 5th and everywhere November 7th. You can learn more about the movie as well as view a trailer on the Interstellar blog.
The plot of the movie has Earth as almost unlivable. In fact, the current generation is probably the last one our planet will see and a widowed engineer must decide whether he should leave his children and venture through a recently discovered wormhole to try and find a place where humans could live. The idea of wanting a safe place for our kids to live and wanting them to be better off than we are is a universal desire and will be very easy for parents to relate to. The question of whether or not to leave home and family will also be very relate-able for parents. The idea of missing years of milestones and memories is a lot to give up.
The premise of the movie made me think a lot about how fast those growing up years go even without a wormhole! Sometimes I just want to freeze time and savor it for a bit longer. I thought it would be fun to create a family time capsule so that we can look back in ten or twenty years and see where we were and what we were doing. If you’d like to do the same thing, here is a unique printable to help you freeze this moment in time as well!
