If you are a HUGE Full House fan like me, you have been anxiously waiting for the Fuller House episodes to drop on Netflix ever since the series was announced. I loved the series back it was it first run and have loved sharing it with Josh as we worked our way through the syndicated reruns. Both of us were excited to hear that Fuller House was hitting Netflix on February 26th.
Fuller House Episodes Sneak Peek
As a member of the Netflix #StreamTeam, I was able to preview the first six episodes of Fuller House and I get to share my thoughts with you on them. To be perfectly honest, I was a bit let down after watching the first episode. I realize the writers were in a unique spot – they needed to quickly catch the audience up on what had been happening in all the characters’ lives since we last saw them. It felt a bit awkward as each character tried to work 20+ years of activity into a one line summary. Add to that the numerous nods to the original series, squeezing in every single catch phrase from Full House, and even some references to the actors’ real lives and it felt like a bit of overkill. (There are some super funny moments though, including an unconventional nod to the Olsen twins.)
But wait – don’t give up on the series just yet!! The first episode was kind of like that necessary awkward stage that every tween must go through before coming into their own and being confident in who they are. What excited me about the Fuller House series was seeing how the characters had grown up and who they had become. I wanted to see what kind of a mom DJ was and if Kimmy had ever outgrown her goofy ways. There wasn’t a lot of room for that in the first episode, but I was so glad I stuck it out and kept watching.
Fuller House only gets better!
The remaining five episodes were everything I had hoped for and more. Once we had the obligatory nostalgia out of the way, the characters were able to develop in a way that added the much needed depth I had been craving. We get to see how DJ, Stephanie, and Kimmy have grown and been shaped by their various experiences. Don’t worry, there are still some throwback moments and nods to the original series, but they don’t overtake the plot or overshadow the story line. Oh – and there are some AWESOME guest appearances! I’ll be quiet before I spoil anything…
I hope you’ll sit down and watch Fuller House (and be sure to give it a few episodes before making any judgements). If you were a Full House fan, I can pretty much guarantee that you will love it. Even if you never got into the original series, Fuller House is a quality family show that can stand on its own merit. And personally, I love having a show that everyone in the family can enjoy together!
