This post is brought to you through a paid partnership with Curves®. Check out how I got here in this post!!
I haven’t ever been a fan of going to a gym to work out. Well, I take that back – in college I really liked going to the gym on campus. All of my friends were there and since it was a women’s college, there weren’t guys all over the place. Plus, my friends and I used to jog around the track together or play racquetball and it didn’t feel like exercise. It was FUN!
I’ve missed that kind of “fun” exercise and have instead chosen to walk on my own or do an exercise video in my family room. So when I first set foot in my local Curves®, I wasn’t expecting to have FUN. But I did!! Maybe it was the upbeat music or the fact that I didn’t have to spend more than a minute in any one spot. Or maybe it was the fact that there were a bunch of women there who all were looking for the same thing I was.
And when they all gathered in a circle in the middle of the space and started dancing and singing along to Meghan Trainor’s “Better When I’m Dancin'” I knew I was among MY people! Seriously – working out was fun again.
If you aren’t familiar with how Curves® works, it’s an all women’s gym that concentrates on making exercise fun and accessible to everyone. There are a series of resistance training machines in a circle with floor pads in between. Participants use the resistance machine until the audio tape prompts them to move over. They then can do gentle cardio, stretching or strength training until prompted to continue the circuit. Participants can hop into the circuit at any point and will work out every major muscle group by the time they have finished the whole circuit in just 30 minutes.

This looks like such a great way to workout! I’ve always thought that gyms were too dour and blah. I need to be in my happy place when I work out.

I need to start being consistent in my workouts. I have a DVD that I do at home and I really enjoy it, but I wonder if I would be more consistent if I scheduled in a time to leave everyday to work out.

One of my friends goes to a Curves gym. She is in really good shape thanks to it.

This best to me is that it’s just women, makes it a whole let less intimating to go work out.

It definitely sounds like a lot of fun! I’ve never heard of this before but I think it’s a great way to keep you motivated when you want to workout.

I like that you get to exercise with others, that’s definitely going to encourage you to work out more. It’s really so much fun when you workout with others instead of doing it solo.

I wish I had a Curves close to my home. Heck I wish I had any gym close to my home. But a workout circuit for women only is definitely my preferred way to workout.

Since you’re completing your workout in a circle, I’d imagine you could build up a great relationship with other members. Sounds like Curves is a great option for women.

Going to curves is just like having an accountability partner. It would keep the motivation up and encourage you to raise the bar higher. I may check this out, and see if there are low impact exercises I could do.

They have yet to bring a Curves anywhere near us yet, I have been curious about checking them out, hope they come by my way soon.
