I switched cell phone carriers way back when the iPhone first came out and you could only be on one network if you wanted an iPhone. At the time, the plan I chose had unlimited data and I got into the habit of using it. A lot. As more and more places started offering free wi-fi, I initially had set my phone to connect with them automatically.
Then I began to hear all about the danger of those unsecured networks and quickly changed the settings back to using my data. Because, you know, it was unlimited. Not too long ago, I started having this message pop up…
Wait, what? Seems like unlimited suddenly has some limits. Of course I called and inquired and was told that I wouldn’t be charged if I went over my new limit, my service would just be slowed down to the equivalent of 1995 dial up. (Okay, they didn’t use those exact words but I got the general idea.) I was also offered a new. more expensive plan that would give me more data each month. More than unlimited apparently…um, no.
Then I found myself between a rock and a potentially unsafe hotspot. Was taking the risk on public wi-fi worth not going over my limit? If only there was a way to use all of those free wi-fi networks without putting my devices at risk.
Oh wait – there is!! It’s F-Secure Freedome.
In conjunction with a sponsored campaign, I was given a Freedome subscription for a year and have been using it for a month so far. It’s insanely easy to use! I just downloaded it on my laptop and also installed the app on my phone and iPad. Whenever I am about to connect to an unsecured wi-fi network, I open the app and tap to turn on Freedome. Easy peasy!!
I’m looking forward to no more annoying “you’re about to go over your data limit” messages and I don’t even have to think about switching to a more expensive plan. So while I am using Freedome for free right now, I know that I can re-subscribe when my trial is over and still be ahead of the game when it comes to cost.
Want to try Freedome for free yourself? The other Freedome bloggers and I are giving away a year of Freedome AND an iPad mini AND an Apple watch. (I know, right?)
You have ONE MORE DAY to enter – it ends September 1st.
