Treating Eczema Without Steroids #CLnSkinCare #MC

Fighting Eczema without Steroids

CLn When LJ was about 18 months old, he developed a pretty nasty rash all over his face and torso. When we took him to the doctor, we were told that he had eczema and given some advice on how to cut down on the severity and some steroid cream to use on his torso.  I wasn’t thrilled with the idea of putting steroid cream on a toddler, but the idea of getting a secondary infection from the raw skin left after all of his scratching was also pretty concerning. After a few years, his facial and torso breakouts went away, but he started getting a bumpy, itchy rash on his legs.  Once again, we were given steroid cream and instructions to only have him bath every few days to minimize any drying out the water and soap might be causing.   We wound up using the steroid cream much more than I would have liked and tried a ton of soaps, cleansers and moisturizers that promised results but rarely delivered.

CLn review

We were offered a sample of CLn Skin Care to try – both the facial cleanser and body wash.  LJ tried the body wash on his legs as he was in the middle of a flare up when the CLn arrived.  He showered as usual and then turned off the water and applied the body wash to his legs and let it sit for 90 – 120 seconds. He rinsed with luke warm water and patted his legs dry.  The first few times he used it, it complained of a little stinging, probably because his legs were raw from the outbreak.  By the end of the first week, he no longer felt any sting and his legs were looking visibly better.  By the end of the three week trial, his legs looked almost normal despite taking daily showers. We have not used the steroid cream since starting with the CLn. (I cannot remember the last time we have gone 3 weeks with no steroid cream.)

Eczema before and after CLn

As a side note, I tried the facial cleaner even though I didn’t really have any conditions I was aware of. (The facial cleaner is typically used to treat rosacea, acne, and eczema.)  While I have not ever been officially diagnosed with rosacea, it does run in my family and I have a pretty ruddy complexion that I typically cover with foundation.  It’s been quite a few years since I’ve been comfortable venturing out without make up on my face.  I liked the way the CLn facial cleanser made my face feel and used it for several weeks.  One day, I noticed that my skin tone had evened out considerably.  I was even able to give up my heavier foundation for a light BB cream instead.

These are just my anecdotal stories about how CLn has helped my family, but it has also received national recognition from such organizations as the National Eczema Association who awarded CLn the Seal of Acceptance.  While CLn does not claim to cure these conditions,  it calms and soothes the skin and reduces the appearance and feel of dryness and redness.  It is safe for children 6 months and older and can be used head to toe. The ultimate test for us as to whether a product really works is whether we are willing to spend our own money on it once the sample is used up. In this case, I’m sure you have already figured out that we will be using CLn long after this campaign is over!

Dove New Body Wash Review – The Truth Revealed #DoveTruth

winter skin dry soap washI have always been a scent person. I like to have things around me smell nice and often choose the things I buy based on how they smell – laundry detergent, soaps, candles…you name it.  I had been buying my body wash from a store that specialized in body (and things like that) solely because I really liked the smell of their products.

I guess this was okay when I was younger, but lately it had started to become an issue.  Now that I no longer a teenager, I have to be really conscious of how products affect the moisture level of my skin.  In the cold Wisconsin winters, this becomes an even bigger issue.  I was starting to notice that my skin was feeling tight and dry and often kind of itchy – no fun at all!!

When I began as a Dove Ambassador, I was excited to try their new body wash since I had recently fallen in love with their shampoo and conditioner and noticed a huge difference in my hair once I started using it.  The body wash did not disappoint!  Right away (as in after only one use), I noticed that my skin felt better.  That annoying itch was gone.  After I had been using it for a little over a week, I noticed that I could actually see a difference in my skin. (Here’s where I wish I had taken a “before” picture!! But I’m not going to stop using it just for the sake of proof!)  My shins especially showed the greatest improvement.  I even ditched my shave cream and started using the Dove Body Wash – no more post shaving stinging and itching.

The best thing that I discovered was that I loved the smell of the Dove Body Wash.  It comes in a variety of fun “flavors” but even the dove productstraditional scent is just so fresh and clean that I fell in love with it. I also got to try out the unscented sensitive skin variety which was a perfect fit with my 8 year old son.

I guess the biggest testament to whether I like a product or not is whether I will go out and buy more once my free samples have run out. I can say that I have already stocked up on more Dove Body Wash as I don’t want to get caught for even one day with an empty bottle! Plus there are so many fun scents and varieties to try.

Therapon Giveaway – Skin Renewal System

I’ve gotten pitched a lot of skincare products during the life of this blog. And I mean a LOT. Some of them I have liked and continued using after the freebies were used up and some not so much.  But never before have I used a product that actually resulted in people commenting on how great my skin looked.

This past May, I went to a local blogging conference where free mini-facials were offered.  Never one to turn down a facial, I popped into the Therapon suite and let their representative, Christina, have at my face.  She cleansed, exfoliated, and moisturized me and sent me on my way with a few samples to try at home.  My face felt fabulous (as it always does right after a facial) and I expected it would wear off as the days went by.

A little quick background on Therapon:  It was started by a plastic and reconstructive surgeon who specializes in working with burn patients.  If you know anything about burned tissue, you know that it requires very special care – gentle but highly effective.  This is at the root of Therapon’s ability to make your skin look amazing!

Once home, I started using the products I had been given and noticed that my face was keeping that “just had a facial” feeling even though it had been quite a few days.  I was also starting to get compliments on my skin and even ventured out without any makeup on a few times.   I was in love!  I quickly ordered full sizes of the products I had been using as well as their facial sunscreen and peel.  I’ve been a loyal convert ever since!

The folks at Therapon would love to win you over as well and are giving away a full sized set of their Theraderm Skin Renewal System (this is the set I fell in love with) which has a retail value of  $137.00.

Here’s how to enter:

Disclosure: I received a sample of Therapon products at the conference and they are providing the prize for this giveaway. No other compensation is being provided (and I reached out to them after falling in love with their products. They are seriously THAT GOOD!)

Neutrogena Wet Skin Sun Protection

When I was younger, I was intent on getting a tan every summer.  This was in spite of the fact that I have very pale, Irish coloring.  With hours of baking in the sun, I might get a slight tan but mostly just turned pink.  By the time I was out of college, I was taking vacations during spring break (an advantage of being a teacher!!) and spending time in tanning booths to “develop a base” so I wouldn’t burn in the Caribbean.

I never really gave much thought to what I was doing to my skin, until the first few wrinkles started showing up. Around that time, people in my family (on the Irish side, of course) were starting to have pre-cancerous and cancerous growths removed.  And then I started to think more and tan less.

The last few years, my goal has been to have no tan lines – and not like when I was in college and would rotate bathing suits so I never had strap marks.  This time, I wanted no tan lines because I had no tan!  I began to make sunscreen my BFF.  And after reading what my friend Sandy recently went through, I am even more determined to protect my skin and the skin of my family.

The hardest part of getting sunscreen on a wiggly six year old (or any child for that matter) is to get them to stay still while you  rub it in.  Go to a lake or beach, add some water and sand, and you will really have a job on your hands.  I have vivid memories of my mom rubbing lotion on me after I came out of the ocean and had dried salt all over me – it did NOT feel good!

When the folks at Neutrogena said that they had come up with a new sunscreen you could just spray on even if you were wet or sandy, I had to give it a try.  Here’s a quick video with a test I did with it (verses another brand) on my wet and dirty hands.

I think this is going to make staying safe in the sun much easier!  If you’d like to give this new product a try (and you should!!), you can order it straight from Neutrogena and get $2 off.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Neutrogena and received compensation in exchange for my time and effort.

Is ProActiv Just for Teens?

It seems to me, that if getting older is going to bring wrinkles and other nasty surprises, at the very least it should also provide an end to dealing with pesky breakouts.  It only seems fair.

I should probably back up and give you some background information here.  When I hit my teen years, I had skin issues – not HUGE acne issues, but I was plagued by pretty regular breakouts and clogged pores.  Pretty typical teen stuff.  I dealt with them using the typical teen products: Clearasil, Noxzema, the usual.  I also got really good at using foundation and cover up to hide my issues.

As I got older, I kept waiting to “grow out of” my breakouts.  It didn’t happen.  What DID happen is that my skin got much less tolerant of the products I was using to clear up my issues.  Now I was in a catch-22: I would either have breakouts and clogged pores or dry peeling skin from the “cures” to my skin issues (and many times the breakouts still happened!).  Ugh!!

When the folks at ProActiv approached me to give their product a try, I was skeptical but figured I didn’t have much to lose.  I have seen the infomercials and had to admit that the results they show are remarkable.  But I had also noticed that many of their testimonials came from teens and twenty-somethings.  I hadn’t seen any from someone like me – you know,  closer to forty than twenty.

When the ProActiv products arrived, I followed the directions exactly which basically consists of using their three step program at least twice a day. (The steps are to cleanse, tone, and then apply a thin layer of repairing lotion. Easy peasy!)

Then I waited, braced for the dry, itchy skin, and the peeling.  It never happened.

Now, I’m not going to pretend to understand why this benzoyl peroxide product doesn’t dry out my skin when all of the other ones I have used do, I just know that it doesn’t. Perhaps it has to do with the other ingredients that are used – I’m not sure.  I just know that my skin looks great.

Not only have my problem areas seen a drastic improvement – clearer (and smaller) pores, fewer breakouts – the rest of my skin looks better too.  That was a benefit I was not prepared for. My whole face is brighter, smoother, and not at all dried out.

So to sum up, if you are having skin issues, I highly recommend ProActiv, even if you are not a teen (although I really wish I had access to something like this when I was a teen!).  I liked it enough that, when the samples I was given were gone, I signed up for the auto-delivery.  I liked it THAT MUCH!

The Pros:

  • Clearer, breakout-free skin.
  • Moisturized, healthy skin – not dry or flaky.
  • An easy to use system – that WORKS!
The Cons:
  • It can take the color out of fabrics. (The information that came with the product did warn of this, but I didn’t really take it seriously.  I had my washcloth turn an interesting bleached color and had some spotting on my pillowcase.  Easily solved by switching both of these items to white.  But good to know ahead of time.)
  • Isn’t available in the stores.  You do have to plan ahead to make sure that you don’t run out.  The good news is you can sign up for auto-delivery so you are never caught without.

Right now, ProActiv is offer a sixty day money back guarantee and free shipping. So give it a try – what do you have to lose except your skin issues?
