Treating Eczema Without Steroids #CLnSkinCare #MC

Fighting Eczema without Steroids

CLn When LJ was about 18 months old, he developed a pretty nasty rash all over his face and torso. When we took him to the doctor, we were told that he had eczema and given some advice on how to cut down on the severity and some steroid cream to use on his torso.  I wasn’t thrilled with the idea of putting steroid cream on a toddler, but the idea of getting a secondary infection from the raw skin left after all of his scratching was also pretty concerning. After a few years, his facial and torso breakouts went away, but he started getting a bumpy, itchy rash on his legs.  Once again, we were given steroid cream and instructions to only have him bath every few days to minimize any drying out the water and soap might be causing.   We wound up using the steroid cream much more than I would have liked and tried a ton of soaps, cleansers and moisturizers that promised results but rarely delivered.

CLn review

We were offered a sample of CLn Skin Care to try – both the facial cleanser and body wash.  LJ tried the body wash on his legs as he was in the middle of a flare up when the CLn arrived.  He showered as usual and then turned off the water and applied the body wash to his legs and let it sit for 90 – 120 seconds. He rinsed with luke warm water and patted his legs dry.  The first few times he used it, it complained of a little stinging, probably because his legs were raw from the outbreak.  By the end of the first week, he no longer felt any sting and his legs were looking visibly better.  By the end of the three week trial, his legs looked almost normal despite taking daily showers. We have not used the steroid cream since starting with the CLn. (I cannot remember the last time we have gone 3 weeks with no steroid cream.)

Eczema before and after CLn

As a side note, I tried the facial cleaner even though I didn’t really have any conditions I was aware of. (The facial cleaner is typically used to treat rosacea, acne, and eczema.)  While I have not ever been officially diagnosed with rosacea, it does run in my family and I have a pretty ruddy complexion that I typically cover with foundation.  It’s been quite a few years since I’ve been comfortable venturing out without make up on my face.  I liked the way the CLn facial cleanser made my face feel and used it for several weeks.  One day, I noticed that my skin tone had evened out considerably.  I was even able to give up my heavier foundation for a light BB cream instead.

These are just my anecdotal stories about how CLn has helped my family, but it has also received national recognition from such organizations as the National Eczema Association who awarded CLn the Seal of Acceptance.  While CLn does not claim to cure these conditions,  it calms and soothes the skin and reduces the appearance and feel of dryness and redness.  It is safe for children 6 months and older and can be used head to toe. The ultimate test for us as to whether a product really works is whether we are willing to spend our own money on it once the sample is used up. In this case, I’m sure you have already figured out that we will be using CLn long after this campaign is over!

Spring Has Sprung at OshKosh B’Gosh #MC

oshkosh postI can not get over how much LJ has grown over the past few months!  I thought we might be able to squeeze through Spring by using his clothes from last Fall, but sleeves and pant legs are looking just a tad too short to be able to get away with that.  We quickly realized we needed to pick up some new clothes and were so happy when an invitation to work with OshKosh B’Gosh arrived.

I’ve talked before about all of the reason why we love OshKosh B’Gosh clothes for LJ – the great selection of colors and styles, the superior workmanship, the way the clothes wear and last so well, and the great value they offer.  We were given $100 to spend and looked forward to seeing how far we could stretch it.  (Before we left, we made sure we had our 20% off coupon in hand.)

Once we were there, LJ set out to find those “must have” clothes.  It wasn’t hard to find things he liked – OshKosh B’Gosh has a great selection of clothes for a boy LJ’s age.  He’s too old for the cutesy clothes that I used to love to dress him in, but I don’t want him looking like a full fledged teen just yet either.  This can be a tricky age to navigate the fashion waters. (I hear from friends that dressing a girl this age is even tougher!  Those same friends sing the praises of OshKosh B’Gosh for the same reason I do – age appropriate!)

LJ found several outfits her really liked and I was thrilled that they looked neat and pulled-together.

Can we just say that store makes me wish just a little bit that I was also shopping for a girl???

(There were such great clearance deals on the fall and winter clothes that we couldn’t resist grabbing just a few more pairs of pants.  It does kind of seem like winter will never end in these parts, so at least we are covered.)

As always, we were amazed  how many items we walked out with. Find an OshKosh B’Gosh near you and let me know how much you save there!

Healthgrades App Can Help You Find a Doctor or Hospital

healthgrades appI participated in a campaign for Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Healthgrades. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

When I was growing up, I had the same pediatrician from the time I was 5 until I turned 18 and left for college. Most of the kids I knew in my small town went to him as well.  These days, it’s not unusual for people to have to change doctors either because of an insurance change, a move, or other various reasons.  When this happens, trying to find a new doctor can be stressful.  You may be familiar with the Healthgrades website.  I know we’ve used it as a reference or jumping off point when needed to find a specialist like an ENT or orthopedic surgeon.  The website offers ratings of individual doctors and hospitals based on a number of factors.  The ratings are from actual patients and fall on a 1 to 5 star scale.  Now, Healthgrades also has an easy to use app.  You have the advantage of searching doctors and hospitals right from your phone.  You can also sync it with your calendar to make appointment reminders even easier!

Clean Naturally with Green Works and Play the Green Works Words Game on Pinterest

green worksI participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Green Works. I received a product sample to facilitate my review and promotional item as a thank you for participating.

Over the years, we’ve made some changes in the way we run our house in an effort to clean up the foods we eat and our surroundings.  While we had always raised a few herbs in pots on the patio, this year we took the leap into full fledged gardening.  (Okay, I know our two bed garden is much smaller than many out there, but it was a big leap for us.)  I focused on greens mostly, growing five kinds of lettuce, several kale plants, parsley and tons of basil.  I also added two zucchini and two eggplant plants in what used to be a flower bed.

Along with our gardens, we added two rain barrels and a compost container to our landscape.  I loved being able to reuse both the rainwater and leftover foods in a way that helped the earth and moved us closer to our goal of clean living.

Speaking of clean, I’m not a big fan of cleaning. (Shocking, I know!!) In fact, I kind of hate it.  It’s only made worse when cleaning includes being exposed to nasty chemicals and fumes that choke or even induce an asthma attack.  When I first started trying out “green” cleaners, I was frustrated by the fact that many of them did not seem to work as promised.  I felt like I was stuck between choosing a chemical cleaner that was bad for me and horribly unpleasant to use and green cleaners that required three times the work just to get the same result.

Frankly, I didn’t really like either option!

Thank goodness for products like Green Works, that make cleaning safer and easier.  I’ve become much more willing to embrace green cleaning when it doesn’t mean adding a bunch of extra work to my cleaning schedule!  When I started talking to people, I found that Green Works had quite a fan base out there!

Have some fun by playing the Green Works Games on Pinterest!  It’s really easy – you unscramble the words provided and then pin a picture that represents the answer.  For example, I pinned a lemon for the word “fresh” because I love the fresh smell of lemons.  You can really make your answers represent your personality and have some fun with it!  (Make sure you include the hashtag #greenworksgames in all of your answers so Green Works can find them!)

Use the FINDS Shopping App to Score Some Great Finds!

finds shopping appWith so many shopping apps out there, it can be hard to decide which one is a good fit for you.  Mom Central offered me the chance to try out the Finds app for my iPhone as part of a campaign with Finds and I thought “why not?”.

I love shopping. Well, I actually don’t, at least not the part where you wander around aimlessly trying to find the “perfect” gift or item to purchase.  I like the kind of shopping where you shop from the comfort of your couch or at least find ideas from the comfort of your couch and then go out and buy them.  That’s why the Finds app (available for free on iTunes) is perfect for someone like me.

When I need to find some inspiration, I can easily see what other Finds users have posted.  With the “Discover” tab, I can browse through the most recent postings or I can search for something specific.  I can also search out specific users and see what they are posting.

The “Wishlist” option allows me to bookmark things I find that I want to purchase myself.  I can also see friends’ wishlists as well (This is great if I am wanting to buy something for them but am fresh out of ideas.)

I am even enjoying my own aimless shopping trips more now thanks to Finds.  When I make a fabulous find, I can share it out on Finds and help others who might be looking for something similar or just provide a little inspiration!  I’ve been looking for a stylish bag that can hold my laptop and camera gear when I am travelling.  I was pretty excited when I found a Kelly Moore bag that fit the bill and just as excited to share it with the Finds community.

I’d love it if you’d follow me on Finds (I’m Wisconsin Mommy from Milwaukee if you want to search me out).  And, for a little added treat, Finds is giving away a $100 Visa Debit Card to one of its users each week.  To enter, just sign up, get a few (3) followers, and make sure you’ve posted something that week.
