Hack, hack, cough, cough.

Illness has once again descended upon us here at casa de WI Mommy. We have all come down with various cold-like ailments. Little J has the perpetual runny nose. Big J has some slight congestion and coughing (he got off the easiest). Both my parents have nasty colds complete with fevers. I have managed to come down with a nasty pneumonia/bronchitis combo.

Don't worry - I'm not making my own soup this time!

I am at a loss as to what to do to keep my family healthy. We eat well, we (usually) go to bed at a reasonable hour, I clean like a nut - especially when someone starts with the cold symptoms. But it doesn't help. We catch every single cold, bug, germ, you name it , that goes around. HELP!!!

I've even done my research. Do you know what the number one best thing you can do to help prevent illness is? I do - wash your hands. We are religious about washing hands here. We wash before every meal, after coming home from shopping, after coming home from pre-school, after using the bathroom, after sneezing our blowing our noses, need I go on? If this is supposed to help prevent illness, I can only assume we would all be dead if we didn't wash as much as we do because it's NOT HELPING!!!

On a positive note, I have found a great product that helps in the battle to get Little J to willingly wash his hands (since I am clearly obsessed with it). Check out this amazing find here.

  1. Airbourne. My Mom used it one year and didn't get sick once, and her immune system is shot because of her kidney disease and dialisys. It also helps get rid of colds quicker. A teacher invented it and I use it the first sign of illness now, if it doesn't stop the germs from spreading from one inmate to the other it makes their illness go away much faster then it would have otherwise. You can get it pretty much anywhere but a pharmacy is the best bet.

I hope you guys get to feelin better!

  3. We've all been sick here, too. It sucks.

For colds, I swear by Emergen-C. It's a vitamin powder you add to water, and it helps fend off a cold or shorten one that already hit.
